Summary

The Huyton and Roby Capacity Scheme was the first element of the Northern Hub programme to achieve a Transport and Works Act Order and was completed on time, despite being accelerated by four years to provide an early strategic improvement to transport links between Liverpool and Manchester.

The CEEQUAL Award for the Huyton and Roby Capacity scheme is all the more poignant given the location of the project on the first inter-city railway in the world, the Manchester-Liverpool Railway.

It is now the first project on the Northern Programme to achieve a CEEQUAL Excellent Award, demonstrating the commitment of Network Rail, Mott MacDonald and Buckingham Group to the sustainability agenda as the construction of the Northern Powerhouse gets underway.
